Detroit— A 14-year-old chess champion from Ann Arbor is putting his game to the test, playing 40 to 60 matches at the same time.

Atulya Shetty will play the so-called “simul” matches today at the Detroit Institute of Arts.


Members of the public can see the Huron High School freshman take on members of the Detroit City Chess Club beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Atulya has been playing chess since he was 4 and earned the title of “national master” last year.

He recently represented the U.S. at the 2010 World Youth Chess Championships in Greece.
