Robert Gwaze won the just ended Zimbabwe Chess Open from 1 January to the 6th at Causeway.He finished with 9,5 points out of 11 rounds of play.He drew

3 games against Daud Amin,Kelvin Chumfwa and Musatwe Simutowe the two are Zambians.Jonah Chaka,Spencer Masango,Dion Moyo,Musatwe Simutowe,Eric Takawira and Elisha Chimbamu were all tied on second position with 8,5 points.Kelvin Chumfwa,Lewis Kahoba,Farai Masanganise,Emerald Mushore,Audius Mazowe and Dennis Mashukudu were all tied on the 7th position with 8 points.Audius Mazowe was the best scholar while Anesu Masimba was the second best scholar with 7,5 points.Natsai Chiwundura was the best lady with 7 points while Rhoda Masiyazi was the second best with 6,5 points.Mark Masango was the best over 50 years player followed by Christopher Madamombe.Nicole Mpambela and Leo Handirepi were the best under 12 players.The best under 14 players were Takudzwa Rusike and Melody Machoko who is based in Botswana.She is  Maxwel Machoko’s daughter.Mpumelelo Moyo was the youngest player of the tournament.Cevan Murerwa made a good account of himself by holding Dion Moyo,and Thomas Zulu of Zambia.only to falter at the last hurdle.Yours truly had a very bad tournament losing a won game against Mark Masango.This game affected me the rest of the tournament.A record turnout of about 130 players took part in the tournament.The first Grand Prinx will be held end of February.It was a pulsating tourney with a lot of lessons learnt over the 64 squares.Happy New Year.
