The brick building that houses The Port Jefferson Free Library sits on the steep grade of Thompson Street, just off historic East Main. Inside you’ll find it chock full of resources, with more than 175,000 books, magazines, movies and CDs, to a calendar of community programs, art exhibits and resources like computer access and free Wi-Fi. Like the community it serves, The Port Jefferson Free Library has an eclectic mix that is fun, innovative and informational.

The library offers cutting edge services like its “Text a Librarian” program, an online book club, a Twitter account and the ability to search the entire Suffolk County library card catalog from its website. The seven-member Board of Trustees holds public meetings monthly. If all that wasn’t enough, the property is even listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
