Chess grandmaster visits Blackburn

One of the world’s top chess players came to Blackburn on Sunday to play against 23 players from across the North.
English grandmaster Nigel Short MBE won all 23 games after a marathon four-and-a-quarter hours at Blackburn Northern Sports Club.
Nigel played for the world championship in 1993, losing to Gary Kasparov and was British Champion three times.
The event was organised by Crusaders Chess Club and sponsored by Chess Direct Ltd.
