MANILA,
Nov. 26 (PNA) — All is set for the much-awaited 1st National Press Club
(NPC) media chess tournament dubbed “Massacre in November Chess
Tournament” on Saturday at the Plaridel Hall of the NPC Bldg. on
Magallanes Drive, Intramuros, Manila.

No
less than National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)
President/Chairman Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr. and Maguindanao Gov.
Esmael “Toto” Mangundadatu will do the ceremonial moves on Saturday at 2
p.m. along with NPC President Jerry S. Yap and tournament organizer
Atty. Toto Causing.

All
journalists who are not rated by FIDE and NCFP are welcome to take part
in the event that is free of registration but offers prizes of P5,000
for the champion, P4,000 for the runner-up, P3,000 for third place
finisher, P2,000 for the fourth prize winner, and P1,000 for fifth
placer.

All
of those who end up in sixth to 10th places shall receive P500 each
while the top senior and female players shall receive additional P500
each.

The
two-day event, which is set to commemorate the massacre of 32
journalists on November 23, 2009 in Ampatuan, Maguindanao, aims to
strengthen the camaraderie among newsmen who love chess.
