SOME 200 wood pushers from all over Baguio clash for honors in a three day tournament aimed to hone their skills and instill camaraderie.
The tournament will be part of the Association of Baguio Christian Schools sports festival kicking off January 14 at the Athletic Bowl with some 20 school members joining the three day competition. The tournament is in coordination with the Regional Kordilyera Chess Association.
The chess competition will be among the highlights of the annual sports fest of the city’s Christian school conclave. Several other sports events are also lined up for the event.
Two categories, the high school and elementary divisions, will be played in the tournament with different championships at stake in the different grade school and high school year levels.
“The tournament will be a knockout system and we expect at least 200 players from the 20 school members,” said RKCA vice president Roger Garcia. UCCP shall be housing the event.
With the newly organized region’s chess organization, several tournaments are being eyed this month, according to Garcia in an earlier interview.
A Valentine’s Day chess tournament will also be staged in Barangay P. Burgos through Punong Barangay Bonnie Bustos as part of the village’s annual fiesta.
Garcia said they are also eyeing a possible partnership with the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council to sponsor some of their tournaments being planned for this year. (Roderick Osis)
