Chinmay, Zeng upset GMs at Parsvnath chess tourney

New Delhi, Jan 8 (PTI) Unheralded Maharashtra’s Chinmay Kulkarni stunned Grand Master Marat Dzhumaev of Uzbekistan while Zeng Chongsheng of China outwitted fourth seed Austrian GM Markus Ragger in the opening round of the Parsvnath International Open chess tournament here today.

Playing black side of the Scheveningen variation of sicilian defence, Kulkarni got the better of his Uzbek rival in 27 moves while Chongsheng took one more move in Queen’s Gambit to overcome his fancied Austrian opponent on the first day of the event at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex.

While top seed GM Areshchenko Alexander of Ukraine had an easy outing against Intenational Master P Karthikeyan, sixth seed and leader of the Indian challenge in this tournament, Parimarjan Negi made short work of Vikramaditya Kamble.
