AUSTIN Jacob Literatus Rowelyn Joy Acedo topped the boys and girls 18-under events, respectively, in the just-concluded Pahalipay sa Pasko ni Mayor Inday Sara ug Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Age-Group Chess Festival held at the Gaisano Grand Citimall Entertainment Center.

Literatus, a Doña Carmen Denia National High School (DCDNHS) mainstay and Asean Age-Group Championship gold medalist in Vietnam, scored perfect five points to annex the title over Jon Christian Lesaca (4.0 points) and Denzel John Amar (3.5) who landed in the next two spots.

The Jose Maria College (JMC) bet Acedo tallied 4.5 points, beating Mary Israel Palero and Jane Lagan who finished with identical 3.5 points in the meet sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) and organized in cooperation with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO).

John Gerald Acedo earned 4.5 points to pocket the boys 16-under title at the expense of Mark Bryan Sumayan (4.0) and Arthur Dane Clerino (3.5) while three-pointer Ella Grace Moulic ruled the girls side over Marianne Infiesto who took the runner-up honors and Jocelyn Gurang who came third.

In under 14, Wenno Aclo emerged boys champion with 4.5 points while Ralph Miguel Reyes who got 4.0 points was second and Raymondwill Mirantes (3.5) placed third. The girls crown went to Dhona Yngayo who prevailed over Christy Buna and Yna Krisha Yngayo.

The Gimony siblings, Bhing Joel and Joerlz, stamped their class in the under-12 category. Bhing Joel won the boys event over Jason Jay Gurang and Nathan James Gabertan while Joerlz stamped her class in the girls event over Giddel Mirantes and Klea Bondaon.

The other champions were John Marvin Miciano (boys under-10), Kurt Placencia (boys under-eight), Lorraine Yngayo (girls under-10) and Irish Yngayo (girls under-eight). (MLSA)
