The Fiji Chess Federation will use this weekend’s national championship as a buildup for the Oceania Chess Games next year.

President Dr Virgilio De Asa said the national championships, which begins on Friday at the Fiji Medicine School campus in Tamavua will be competitive.

“The qualifiers for this tournament are the top place getters in previous month’s competition. There will be about eight players who will be playing in the round robin competition.”

“This championship is one of several buildups for the Oceania Chess Championship that will be held at Rotorua in New Zealand in January. It will be really competitive.”

The Fiji Chess Championship begins on Friday and ends on Monday.
