Himal secures third spot in chess tourney

Chandigarh youngster Himal Gusian has done the city proud by securing the third spot in the 21st National U-17 Open Chess Championship which concluded at Jammu on Tuesday. The SD School, Sector 32 student was seeded seventh in the tournament and won the first three games in the championship. Gusain also won his last two games to finish a credible third in the championship. A total of 77 players including three International Masters took part in the championship.Gusain has now qualified to represent India in the international tournaments next year.

Cheema nominated in IGU’s Committee

Jagdeep Singh Cheema, has been nominated by the Indian Golf Union on its Championship Committee. Cheema has a vast experience of conducting tournaments and his experience will be of great assistance to the Indian Golf Union. The members of CGA welcomed the nomination of Cheema in the Championship Committee.

SGGS College win kabaddi title

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh won the Panjab University Kabaddi (National style) Men A-Division Tournament. In a match played on Friday, SGGS College scored a 34-14 win over RSD College, Ferozepur. In the Panjab University Inter-College Hockey (Women) Tournament, Government College for Women, Ludhiana scored a 9-0 win over PG Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh.

Badminton tournament from November 24

Chandigarh State Badminton Championship for all age groups will be held at Sector 42 Badminton Hall from November 24. All eligible players are required to send their entries before November 21 with entry free to Surinder Mahajan, coach at Panjab University Centre, Vijay Sharma, vice-president, CBA, Sector 42 Centre and Promila, badminton coach at Sector 23 Centre from 8.00 am to 10.00 am.
