Jeopardy! will pit man versus machine come February 2011. Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, two of Jeoprady!’s most successful champions, will pair up to go against an IBM machine! Will the match be as thrilling as when an IBM machine went against chess champion Garry Kasparov in 1997?
The IBM machine, named Watson, has already played more than 50 games against past Jeopardy! champions. However, IBM and the game show won’t say what Watson’s record was. Watson was created by an artificial intelligence team that successfully programmed it to mimic human intelligence. There’s little doubt, Watson will be a challenge for Jennings and Rutter.
So, how much will the winners take from the match between man and machine on Jeopardy!? The winners will take home a grand prize of $1 million. IBM stated the winnings will go to charity while Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter will probably take their winnings to the bank! Both men did say they would give half the winnings away.
