Pangasinan Chess Fest set Nov. 27

Lingayen, Pangasinan (15 November) — Chess enthusiasts all over the province and other parts of the country will again see action in a series of chess tournaments to kick off on November 27 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.

Dubbed as Pangasinan Chess Festival, young and adult chess players will have the chance to compete in three categories, namely, the Pangasinan Age Group Chess Championship to be held on November 27 to 28, the Pangasinan Chess Championship on December 4 to 5 and the 2nd Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr Cup Open Chess Tournament on December 28 to 30.

The Chess Festival is an offshoot of the Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. Chess Clinic conducted by the province last September with more than 400 participants classified under beginner, intermediate and advance categories.

Espino said the activity is part of the sports development program of the provincial government to develop the youths.

Under the age group are five age sections?Under 20, Under 16, Under 14, Under 12 and Under 10. Participants are required to submit birth certificates and bring their own chess sets and must be Pangasinenses.

The Pangasinan Chess Championship will also be limited to Pangasinense players while the Cup Open is for all interested chess players.

Juan Sison, PCF president said the chess fest aims to promote and develop chess in Pangasinan and will provide exposure of players against grandmasters, international masters and national masters.

He said the tournaments will be part of the PCF training program for the young and talented chess players of Pangasinan.
