MANILA, Philippines – International Master (IM) Yves Ranola defeated a fellow Filipino player in the ongoing Penang International Open Chess Championships to share the lead with 2 other Pinoys in Malaysia on Saturday.

Ranola, who hails from Caloocan City, defeated compatriot Fide Master (FM) Christopher Castellano of Cainta, Rizal.

He is now tied with Filipino IMs Oliver Dimakiling and Oliver Barbosa with 6 points each after the seventh round.

Dimakiling, the pride of Davao City, and Barbosa of Rizal drew their matches.

With the loss, Castellano was stuck at 5 points in the company of IM Luis Chiong of Antique, FM’s Haridas Pascua of Pangasinan, Julius Joseph de Ramos of Manila and Ian Cris Udani of Bacolod City. – By Marlon Bernardino
